What is Bad Prophet?
Every age has its prophets. In recent history, Marx prophesied the coming of the class revolution. Fukuyama predicted that with the close of the Cold War, we would stand at the end of history. But revolution did not come, and history ever marches on. We have a very good knack for making bad predictions about the world. Bad Prophet does not seek to remedy any of this. Bad Prophet accepts that prophesies often, if not always, go bad.
The point of Bad Prophet is to provide a space for speculation, to allow us to embrace bad prophesies. This is a space to test out sophisticated concepts and nuanced ideas. We are not concerned with hard facts and meticulously collected data. We are content to let others do that work for us. This is a place for speculation, imagination, and asking hard questions about a world in which, no matter how much data we have, we will always find ourselves wanting for more. We are political imaginaries, radicals on a mission, apothecaries for modern day data fetishism. We are Bad Prophet.
